Your vision is cloudy, dim and you’ve got difficulty seeing at night. You may find that lights have “halos” around them. These are symptoms of cataract. Cataract is a result of your clear lenses clouding, which is one common cause of blindness. Alternatively, you may experience your peripheral vision deteriorating. Images at the periphery of your field of vision are fuzzy. Gradually, it gets more difficult for you to see. These symptoms point to primary open angle glaucoma and are insidious. You may not have any inkling that you’re on the road to blindness. If, however, you feel that your central vision is quickly deteriorating with associated severe eye pain, nausea and vomiting, you may be experiencing acute angle closure glaucoma. When straight lines appear crooked and images look unusually lopsided, you may be encountering symptoms of macular degeneration. With macular degeneration, your central field of vision dims rapidly. Colours aren’t as bright as you used to enjoy them; you have difficulty in recognizing people’s faces and blurry spots appear in your vision field.
